Flu Clinic Saturday 14th October, Victoria House - information
Our final Saturday flu clinic will be at Victoria House Surgery. Please be aware that there is very limited parking and so we would ask that if you are coming, please don't bring your car if you are able. We are expecting a high turn out of patients which will cause delays in both our car park and the main road.
AMBROSDEN SURGERY CLOSED - Dates in October
Ambrosden Surgery will not have a GP available on the following dates:
Wednesday 4th October
Wednesday 11th October
Wednesday 18th October
Wednesday 25th October
This mean that you will not be able to book an appointment with the GP or the nurse on these days at Ambrosden - we will be open for medication collection ONLY between 11am and 12pm.

Extended hours at PML's Neighbourhood Access Hubs
Our patients now have even better access to a doctor at the weekends and in the evenings. Neighbourhood Access Hubs developed by Principal Medical Limited (PML) on behalf of Oxfordshire practices in 2015, have extended their opening hours so that yet more patients can benefit from national GP Access funding (GPAF). Ambrosden Medication Collection Days
Ambrsoden is no longer open on a Tuesday and Thursday for medication collection. You will be able to collect your medication on a Monday (11am-1pm), Wednesday (10am-12pm), and Friday (11am-12pm), or you can speak to a Dispenser / Receptionist who can help arrange an alternative collection.
Ambrosden Surgery - new opening times from November 2017
We have had a change to our opening days at Ambrosden Surgery from 1st November 2017.
We are now open on the following days:
Mondays 11.00 - 13.00
Wednesdays 11.00 - 12.00 MEDICATION COLLECTION ONLY - NO CLINIC
Fridays 10.00 - 12.00
This means that we will no longer be open to appointments on a Wednesday, but will will now be open on a Friday.
Alchester Medical Group service pressures and actions taken
An update from us - 22 November 2016
We are experiencing extremely high demand at the moment and we wanted to let you know what we are doing about managing this demand.
We know that it has been harder for you to get through on the phone and that you are waiting longer for dispensary services.
We apologise for this and are working hard to bring the service back to what you expect and deserve. If you could bear with us for the next little while and give the team the benefit of the doubt we would be very grateful, thank you.
As you will know, Langford Medical Practice and Victoria House Surgery merged at the end of September 2016. The merger had been planned for some months prior to this time.
Unfortunately, North Bicester Surgery decided to close their doors on the Friday and we merged on the Monday 3rd October.
As of today, (22nd November 2016) we have taken on around 2,200 additional patients as a direct result of the closure of North Bicester Surgery.
If you are one of the patients who came over to us you will be aware that we have had to ask you to complete lengthy forms and we have added each of you manually to our system. This has been time consuming and frustrating for patients and staff alike. We feel we are largely on top of this now.
Unfortunately we were prevented from simply transferring patients across electronically as this would remove patient choice.
When we merged our IT systems we found that some of the data was lost, particularly in respect of Victoria House patients’ on-line connections for ordering repeat prescriptions and making appointments on-line. We have asked all Victoria House patients to re-register with the service; if you have not done this yet please arrange it with our reception team. We feel that we are on top of this problem too.
We knew that we would need extra GP’s as we merged because some of the previous partners were retiring or stepping down and working less sessions. We did anticipate increased patient numbers if North Bicester were to close, although we did not expect over 2000. We now have over 19,500 patients on our books.
We spent most of the spring and summer of 2016 recruiting new GP’s to join us. This we saw as our biggest risk area – you may well be aware that there is a shortage of GP’s nationally and it is not unusual for a practice to have a vacancy for a GP for 12 months or so. We are delighted to report that we have been successful in recruiting no less than 5 great new doctors to join our team.
After the GP recruitment campaign we have focused on the two areas we would like to improve; Reception and Dispensary.
We are aware that it takes longer for your call to be answered than you are used to.
We have recruited a new receptionist and have another team member joining us in a week or so. This will mean we have at least 5 people to take your calls at peak times. We have 6 incoming lines. We have been monitoring the number of calls our team handle each day and these are published on our website. We expect the time taken to answer your call to reduce significantly very soon.
We are aware that we have changed the service and some of you have experienced problems getting hold of your medication as quickly as you are used to. We are asking for 72 hours notice for a repeat prescription.
We have changed the system for Langford patients; we cannot accept repeat prescription requests over the telephone. This is not safe and it is not regarded as best practice. You can now order on-line, or by using the order form on your last prescription or by dropping a note in personally or by post, or by emailing us on email@example.com in any event your request must be in writing.
We accept that this change has caused some frustration but your safety must be and is our first priority.
We have recruited an additional dispenser who starts with us at the beginning of December and we are still actively looking for another team member to further support our team. This should ensure we improve of efficiency and get our service back to the level we and you expect.
Finally a word or two about our triage system which has been operating at Victoria House for almost 3 years:
Langford patients will have noticed that we have switched over to a triage system for urgent care. If your need is urgent- you have a problem that needs attention today- the reception team put you on our triage list. The duty doctors manage this list. They may call you or ask reception to call you with an appointment, they may call you with advice and reassurance, they may offer you a routine or a soon appointment. Basically they will choose the most appropriate way of getting you the care you need as soon as possible. This may also be with another clinician such as a nurse or with a pharmacist.
We have 1 duty doctor at Victoria House and 1 at Langford Medical Practice from 8:00am – 6:30pmn Monday to Friday and an additional doctor from 8:00am – 1:00pm on a Monday when we experience the highest demand for urgent care. If you need to be seen on the day the duty doctor will make sure you are seen.

Telephone number to use for all patients
PLEASE NOTE THE NUMBER YOU NEED TO RING TO SPEAK TO RECEPTION IS 01869 248585 AND NOT 01869 245665. Please ring this number and you should be able to get through to us.
The reason for this phone number change is that we have moved our Reception team to be based at Victoria House Surgery where we can better deal with our phone calls. If you were to ring Langford Medical Practice, those phone calls then get routed through to Victoria House Surgery, which result in even more delays. Accordingly, we would as that you ring this number if you would like to contact the surgery: 01869 248585.
Our Reception team will be able to book appointments for Langford Medical Practice, pass messages onto any member of staff based at Langford, etc. This does not mean you cannot visit Langford in person to make an appointment or speak to a Receptionist - we will still have Receptionists based at Langford to assist you.
Please be assured that we are aware of the problems our patients have had for the last few weeks in trying to ring us, and we are trying to address them as quickly as we can. Thank you for your patience.
Patient Access for patients of Victoria House Surgery
If you haven't renewed your Patient Access account since the 1st of October 2016, please contact the surgery and renew it BEFORE requesting medication, as your account will have become inactive due to the recent practice merger and we won't see any requests you put through. You will need to renew your account before you are able to use this service.
